Scottish Widows Withdraw Protection
Scottish Widows is to stop quotations for protection insurance as from 13 December. The Company say its products will be through Lloyds TSB’s bank branches.
Its market was, in 2006, only 0.6% of the market and it was considered not be cost effective to continue with this product.
Lifesearch consider Scottish Widows have not been competitive or comprehensive and would therefore, not be missed. Providers, they say, must decide whether to add value or play price games but they cannot do both.

10 Signs to tell that the End Times are near
We have all heard and read about the signs that the apocalypse is upon us. This humorous article doesn't focus on the impending doom, just 10 ways to see that the end is near. They are in no particular order, and in no way define the actual end of time. I think I saw a flying pig the other day!
Carl Rove resigns before Bush leaves office
Most generally when a dog leaves a room, the tail is the last thing you see. In this case, the tail left first. Maybe the dog should be grateful for finally being able to get some rest. Who will wag the dog now?
The Game Shows on TV are more exciting than NASCAR
The Power of 10, Singing Bee and Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader has less predictability than what will happen on Sunday at the races. The Petty’s will soon be gone. The Earnhardt regime will have a non-Earnhardt driver next season. A Hispanic driver is creating more commotion than the Home Depot guy. Sprint will replace Nextel for the cup sponsor in February 2008. What percentage of Americans said they have watched NASCAR since it left FOX?
NFL Player caught in an illegal activity off the field, and it’s not drugs
Every year, during the off season, at least one NFL player gets caught doing something that is less than becoming of a ‘role model’. When did dog-fighting become so popular amongst the NFL elite? What will surface next, the underworld of Cobra and Mongoose fights?
Hurricane Predictions have been downgraded
Experts from around the world have decided that there won’t be as many severe hurricanes as was first thought at the beginning of the season. Yet there are more natural disasters occurring in the US that aren’t related to hurricanes. Floods, fires, mining disasters, etc…
My Homeowners Insurance Premiums dropped
The current insurance crisis is alive and well in Florida. However, the premiums have dropped a little. This is because the property values have dropped off significantly. But the property taxes have finally surpassed the insurance premiums. Governor Crist is happy-he said he would reform the insurance industry. What he didn’t say was that the cost of insurance would be the least of our worries.
Gas Prices are down, and the Stock Market is up-way up
$3 plus for a gallon of gas. 13,000 and rising on Wall Street. The two going in the direction they are going is a recipe of certain doom. Gas should be around $2 a gallon, and the Dow Jones should be around 11,000 +/-. When these two reverse there respective directions, surely the end is near. Can you say CRASH?
Foreclosures hit an all time high
Last year, California was still the leader in foreclosed properties, with Florida way down on the list. This year, Florida has moved to a very unrespectable 2nd in foreclosure filings. People can’t afford the insurance and taxes to own a house here in Florida. The people that rent their homes are scared that the owner of the property will foreclose and put them on the street. It was nice of the Federal Reserve to step in after the damage is done. The wait and see attitude has caused many families to cut their losses and move to the mountains. Are there any properties left in North Carolina?
China has poisoned our toys and our pets
When we buy toys for our kids or our grandkids, we take for granted that any paint or coatings is safe for the children to chew on or play with. No one expected these things to contain lead or other toxins. It may have made good dollars and sense for the government to allow free trade with China. But now we have to scrutinize each toy we purchase, or not purchase them at all.
Our pets are in even more grave danger, no pun intended. When the manufacturer’s had to pay a little more for materials and production of their goods, there was a little more quality control. Items that are completely outsourced have no quality control system in place. By the time 100 million items have been produced and recalled, it is too late. Maybe we should export more to China, so they can see what it is like to be skeptical of everything that you see or buy.
Prison over-crowding puts felons on the street
Everyday, millions of people go to jail for committing a felony. Some crimes are worse than others. But over-crowding at the jails and prisons means that felons, regardless of the crime- a felony is a felony- are put out on the street. They were criminals when they went in, and will be criminals when they get out. Only the most savage of felons are required to stay in jail. If the one that gets out next is the one that robbed your house or your neighbor’s house, but didn’t hurt anyone, then he MUST be released to avoid having too many inmates under one roof. Maybe they could be let out and sent directly to boot camp training. We need people to serve in the military, right?
Presidential campaigning starts 1 year early
We are in for a long, dirty, mud-filled string of political rhetoric. This usually means about 6 months of repetitious ads on TV for all parties involved. The fact that we are hearing so much about those that plan to try to get the chance to be the next President for more than 18 months before the election, alludes to the fact that the next President will surely be the Anti-Christ, or the Christ himself. When is enough, enough? My suspicion is that campaigning has no outer boundaries, unless one of them runs out of money. God forbid.
These quick hitting points that show the end times are near are meant to humorous. They have no actual bearing on the Biblical Depiction of the end of time. The actual end time is not known to man, and could be today or maybe it was a couple of years ago. The days and years seem to run together the older one gets.
Post Office sells Life Cover
The Post Office’s new life insurance cover offers £100 cashback to everyone taking out the insurance.
The cover is offered on level or decreasing terms and covers up to £500,000. The Post Office recently bought out a new over 50’s life insurance but felt that other products were necessary.
Applications can be made over the phone but some feel that this is wrong as the policyholder may not get enough advice and other useful products such as critical life insurance will not be offered or discussed.
Many advisors have said that the more outlets for life insurance that were available were for the better.
